BELGRADE, SERBIA (July 5, 2009) Former University of Houston swimmer Sasha Schwenidenwein finished in 22nd place in the 50-meter butterfly at the 25th World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia today.
Schwenidenwein, who was an NCAA Championships qualifier for the Cougars earlier this year in the women's 200-yard butterfly is competing for Austria in the Games.
Her time of 28.17 seconds was good enough to win her heat, but did not qualify her for the finals.
The former Cougar swim team captain is competing in six events at the Games, including the 100, 200 and 400-meter freestyle and 50, 100 and 200-meter butterfly.
Her next event will be the preliminaries of the 100-meter freestyle on Monday, July 6.
The swimming competition is taking place in the swimming pools of Sports & Recreational Center “Tasmajdan" in Belgrade.
