Munch-Soegaard Earns Player of the Year Award

The Amarillo, Texas native claims back-to-back Tennis Player of the Year awards

AMARILLO, TEXAS (January 29, 2009) TCU junior women's tennis player Nina Munch-Soegaard was named the 2008 Tennis Athlete of the Year, as recognized by the Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame. Munch-Soegaard was one of eight athletes with roots in the Panhandle area to be named a player of the year.

"I am honored to receive the Tennis Player of the Year award from the Panhandle
Sports Hall of Fame,” Munch-Soegaard said. “We have many great current and
upcoming athletes that are representing the Panhandle and I am proud to be
recognized as a part of it."

After being honored by the PSHOF for the same honor last year, Munch-Soegaard
impressed throughout 2008. She had a memorable sophomore campaign in the spring,
recording a team-leading 26-11 dual-match record to earn the All-Mountain West
Conference singles accolades and was named first alternate to the NCAA Singles
Championships. She defeated nine ranked opponents during the season and reached
as high as No. 55 in the ITA national rankings.

The Amarillo native also led the Frogs last fall, putting together a 13-5 record
in singles action, including a 12-match winning streak en route to the
Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional singles title. Munch-Soegaard became the first
Horned Frog to advance to the semifinals in singles action at the ITA National
Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and enters the 2009 dual season ranked No.
12 nationally.
