(June 1, 2007, League City, Texas) The Bay Area Toros recorded the first win in franchise history by defeating the Tarrant County Blue Thunder 8-5 at Wildcat Field in League City.
With the win, the Toros raises their season record to 1-2, while the Blue Thunder goes to 1-1.
The Toros had a monstrous showing at the plate, recording 8 runs on 15 hits. Center fielded Freddy Guzman went three for five with one RBI, with right fielder Zach Williams also tallying three out of five hits.
The Toros exploded in the second and third innings, scoring six runs.
Will Smeltzer got his first win of the season, pitching seven full innings and giving up on 2 runs off of four hits. He also got four strikeouts and walked five.
Designated hitter Mike Medrano extended his hitting streak to three games, going one for four and relief pitcher Keegan Laycock picked up the first save of his professional career.
Laycock faced loaded bases in the top on the ninth inning to preserve the Toros victory.
Pitcher Zach Duncan was credited with the loss for the Blue Thunder.
The Toros and Blue Thunder face off in a double header on Saturday with the final game of the series coming on Sunday.
