SEATTLE, WASHINGTON (June 19, 2026) The United States secured its place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 2-0 victory over Australia on Thursday at Seattle Stadium. The win improved the Americans to 2-0-0 in Group D and marked the nation's first back-to-back World Cup group-stage victories since 1930.

Despite playing without injured captain Christian Pulisic, the U.S. controlled the match from the opening whistle. The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when a dangerous cross from Folarin Balogun forced Australian defender Cameron Burgess into an own goal, giving the hosts an early 1-0 advantage.

The Americans doubled their lead just before halftime. Defender Alex Freeman rose above the Australian defense and headed home a rebound in the 43rd minute. The goal was initially ruled offside but was awarded after a VAR review, sending the Seattle crowd into celebration.

The U.S. dominated possession throughout the match, completing 88 percent of its passes compared to Australia's 62 percent. Australia managed only limited opportunities, while the Americans dictated the tempo behind a strong midfield performance from Weston McKennie. The clean sheet was the U.S. team's first in nine matches.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino praised his squad's mentality after the match, saying the team must continue to "keep believing" as the tournament progresses. He also highlighted the performance of Ricardo Pepi, who stepped into a larger attacking role with Pulisic unavailable.

"We have quality throughout the squad," Freeman said after the match, noting that players were ready to step up when called upon.

The United States will close Group D play against Turkey, while Australia faces Paraguay in a must-win match to keep its knockout-round hopes alive.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 13, 2026) The United States Men's National Team opened the 2026 FIFA World Cup in impressive fashion on June 12, defeating Paraguay 4-1 in front of a sold-out crowd in Los Angeles. The victory was one of the most complete World Cup performances in U.S. history and showcased both the team's depth and attacking talent.

The Americans controlled the match from the opening whistle. An early own goal by Paraguay gave the United States a quick advantage, and the team never looked back. The U.S. midfield dictated the pace of play, winning possession and creating chances throughout the evening. Coach Mauricio Pochettino praised the squad's teamwork after the match, emphasizing that the result was built on collective effort rather than individual brilliance.

Forward Folarin Balogun was the star of the night. The striker scored twice in the first half, becoming the first American player since 1930 to score two goals in a World Cup match. His movement, finishing, and confidence caused constant problems for the Paraguay defense.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (June 13, 2026) Day 2 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, on Friday, June 12, saw two exciting matches as co-hosts Canada and the United States opened their tournament campaigns.

The day began in Toronto, where Canada battled Bosnia and Herzegovina to a 1-1 draw in Group B action. Bosnia and Herzegovina struck first when Jovo Lukic scored to give the visitors an early advantage. Canada pushed forward throughout the second half and finally found the equalizer through veteran striker Cyle Larin. The goal earned Canada its first point of the tournament and kept the hosts in the race for a spot in the knockout stage. Both teams finished the day with one point in Group B.

Later in Los Angeles, the United States delivered one of the strongest performances of the tournament so far with a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay in Group D. Forward Folarin Balogun led the attack with two goals, while the Americans controlled the match from the opening whistle. Paraguay managed a second-half goal, but the United States quickly regained control and added another late score to seal the win. The result puts the Americans at the top of Group D after the opening round of matches.

After two days of competition, North America's host nations have enjoyed a strong start, with Mexico and the United States earning victories and Canada collecting a valuable point.

Mexico defeats U.S. to win 2025 Gold Cup Final

HOUSTON, TEXAS (July 6, 2025)  Mexico came from behind to defeat the United States 2-1 in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Final on Sunday evening at NRG Stadium. With the win, Mexico claimed its 10th Gold Cup title, the most in tournament history.

The match started fast, with the U.S. striking early. In just the fourth minute, defender Chris Richards scored with a powerful header off a free kick from Sebastian Berhalter, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead.

Mexico answered back in the 27th minute. Star striker Raúl Jiménez found the back of the net, scoring his third goal of the tournament to tie the game 1-1.

The second half remained tight until the 77th minute. Midfielder Edson Álvarez scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. His goal was first called offside, but after a video review, the referee confirmed it was good. That gave Mexico the 2-1 lead, and they held on until the final whistle.

This was the eighth time the U.S. and Mexico have met in a Gold Cup final. Mexico now leads the rivalry in finals with six wins to the U.S.’s two.
