Johnson achieves 2 perfect games at Pepsi Open

WATERLOO, IOWA (August 12, 2023) Caitlyn Johnson (Beaumont, Texas) doesn't typically favor tournaments with a fast scoring pace. She believes she performs best when scores are low, allowing her to strategically control the pocket and consistently make spares. However, at Cadillac Xtreme Bowling Center on Friday, the scoring pace was notably high. Despite this, Johnson's performance was nothing short of impressive. 

During the 12 games of qualifying at the Professional Women's Bowling Association Pepsi Open, Johnson displayed dominance, achieving two perfect 300 games. In total, she scored 2,928 points, averaging an impressive 244, securing her first place among the 80+ competitors. Throughout the qualifying rounds, the 24-year-old right-hander consistently broke the 230 mark, with scores of 248, 248, 236, 300, 259, 300, 238, and 245. 

Her lowest score of the day was a respectable 205 in the twelfth game. Although Johnson anticipated high scores at the Pepsi Open, she did not expect to secure the highest one herself. 

"Typically, I excel on flatter patterns, so it's surprising to admit that after leading on a day with such a high scoring pace. This is a first for me. Additionally, achieving two perfect 300 games in a single day and shooting a PWBA 300 are both personal milestones."

Arkansas State, Vanderbilt undefeated through two rounds of SBL Championship

HOUSTON, TEXAS (March 21, 2015) Day one of the Southland Bowling League Championship was contested at Del-Mar Lanes in Houston on Saturday, March 21, 2015 and saw No. 1 Arkansas State and No. 3 Vanderbilt advancing to the third round, both having defeated their first and second round opponents to remind undefeated. 

In the first round, Arkansas State downed No. 8 seed Louisiana Tech by the score of 4-1 (264-156, 147-187, 189-178, 204-166, 212-199) while Vanderbilt took down Tulane 4-1 (157-126, 168-149, 176-186, 199-161, 204-142).

In other first round matches, No. 4 Sam Houston State defeated No. 5 Valparaiso 4-2 (234-170, 194-173, 167-176, 195-234, 179-176, 220-241) while No. 7 Monmouth beat No. 2 Stephen F. Austin 4-1 (204-198, 170-203, 194-185, 218-184, 206-179).

The second round found Valparaiso eliminating Louisiana Tech 4-2 (215-181, 197-210, 191-195, 185-159, 237-174, 244-135). SFA also sent Tulane home with their second loss of the day by the score of 4-3 (156-169, 202-190, 202-174, 173-174, 189-183, 181-200, 214-202).

The third round, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, March 21 will see the two undefeated teams, Arkansas State and Vanderbilt, facing off. The four teams who stand at 1-1 will bowl, with the losers going home. The consolation bracket consists of Valparaiso facing Monmouth and SFA facing SHSU.

Arkansas State is currently ranked number three in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. SFA is ranked fifth nationally in the poll, with Vanderbilt ranked sixth and defending NCAA champion Sam Houston is ranked seventh.

Semi-final and final matches will be contested on Sunday, March 22 beginning at 9:30 a.m. CDT.

FIELD SET FOR WORLD BOWLING TOUR FINALS

ARLINGTON, TEXAS (October 24, 2011)  The finalists for the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association were determined Oct. 22 after the conclusion of the AMF Australian Masters - the final event on the 2011 World Bowling Tour. 

The top three players in the final World Bowling Tour points list in both the men's and women's divisions advanced to the World Bowling Tour Finals, which will take place Nov. 17 in Las Vegas with a total prize fund of $40,000. 

Finland's Mika Koivuniemi took the top spot in the men's rankings with 198 points, while the United States' Sean Rash was second with 142 points. Jason Belmonte of Australia finished third with 120 points. On the women's side, the United States' Carolyn Dorin-Ballard finished first with 145 ranking points. 

A pair of Swedes were next with Nina Flack in second at 120 and Sandra Andersson third with 111 points. 

The World Bowling Tour is made up of various events around the world throughout the course of 2011. 

Players earn points based on how they finish in the event and those points were tabulated throughout the season to determine the top three men and top three women who will be invited to compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association. 

The World Bowling Tour Finals are scheduled to take place at the PBA's World Series of Bowling on Nov. 17. 

The event will be aired nationally in the United States. The top three men and top three women will bowl a stepladder finals format in their respective divisions at the World Bowling Tour Finals. 

The prize money for each division is the same, with the winner taking $10,000, second place earning $6,000 and third place winning $4,000.
