FORT WORTH, TEXAS (March 4, 2008) The TCU men’s tennis team jumped 17 spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking to No. 29 nationally. Three Horned
Frogs also appeared in the singles rankings released on Tuesday.
The Frogs began the season with a 9-1 record, including wins over No. 31 Texas Tech and No. 42 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. TCU suffered its first loss of the season to No. 15 Oklahoma State in the last match played. The No. 29 ranking is the highest for TCU since a No. 23 national ranking on March 28, 2006.
TCU senior Cosmin Cotet jumped from a No. 83 singles ranking to No. 21 nationally after knocking off No. 46 Raoul Schwark of Minnesota and No. 10 Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State in his last two matches. Cotet is currently 9-1 this season, with eight of his nine wins coming in straight sets.
Newcomer Adrian Simon moved back into the singles rankings at No. 115 after earning a preseason ranking of No. 54. Simon, a native of Sibiu, Romania, is currently 6-4 this season playing primarily at the No. 2 position.
Freshman Zach Nichols also re-entered the rankings at No. 122. Nichols, a native of Austin, Texas, has begun the season with a combined record of 20-0.
The men’s tennis team will return to the courts after a nine-day layoff against No. 35 Oklahoma on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
