HOUSTON, TEXAS (June 3, 2008) Rice University golfer Kyle Kelley shot a two-round score of 142 (72-70) during the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday.
Kelley had qualified for the sectional by carding a 72 for the third-best score at a local qualifying tournament held last month at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
In Columbus on Monday, Kelley was one of 19 amateurs competing in a field of 72 golfers. Six golfers advanced out of the sectional for next week’s U.S. Open with the cut off being a 136 two-round score.
The 2008 U.S. Open begins June 9 at Torey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.
