HOUSTON, TEXAS (July 19, 2008) Rice University basketball coach Ben Braun announced Friday that 6-1 point guard Connor Frizzelle has signed with the Owls.
Frizzelle concluded his playing career at DeSoto High School in suburban Dallas this past year. As a senior, he averaged 13 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Eagles. DeSoto advanced to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs Frizzelle’s senior season. He was a second-team All-District 8-5A selection as a senior.
DeSoto won 30+ games Frizzell’s junior year as the Eagles advanced to the Class 5A Region 1 quarterfinals.
“Connor has strong skills at the point guard position,” Braun said. “He brings a lot of leadership from running his high school and AAU teams. In addition, he shoots the ball very well and is a proven scorer.”
Academically, Frizzelle was a Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society student at DeSoto. As both a junior and senior he received a SOAR award from DeSoto High School, maintaining better than a 95 percent average in his core courses.
Frizzelle played his final two years at DeSoto after transferring from Red Oak High School. As a sophomore at Red Oak, Frizzelle’s team posted a 29-7 record and won a district time for the first time in over 50 years. He led Class 4A in scoring during the 2005-06 season, averaging 26 points a game to go along with 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
Frizzelle was coached by Stephen Foster at Red Oak and Chris Dyer at DeSoto. He is the son of Paul and Sherry Frizzelle.
