PVAMU'S WHITE SIGNS A FREE AGENT CONTRACT WITH THE ATLANTA BRAVES

ATLANTA, GEORIGA (July 7, 2008 Former Prairie View A&M University baseball player Wilford White signed a free agent deal with the Atlanta Braves this past week. White’s quest to reach the major leagues began with the Danville Braves who currently serve as one of the Atlanta Braves’ minor league affiliates.

White made his minor league debut on Saturday, June 28th after he was inserted into a contest versus the Greenville Astros in the seventh inning as a pinch runner. He subsequently went on to hit a single to left field in his first minor league at bat.

“I always felt that Wilford had the potential to play professional baseball,” said Interim head baseball coach Waskyla Cullivan. “Wilford has a lot of natural talent and ability as well as a strong work ethic. If he continues to work hard the sky is the limit.”

This past season White competed in 15 games for the Panthers batting .397 while playing third base. White was instrumental in the Panthers run to the 2008 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game.
