Brown Captures Summer Tourney Title; Rice golfer tops 60-player field

HOUSTON, TEXAS (August 8, 2008) Christopher Brown, who returns to the Rice golf team as a junior this fall, shot a three-round, even-par score of 216 to win the Collegiate Players Tour/Sonterra Collegiate Open played this week at the Club at Sonterra in San Antonio.

Brown opened the tournament with a first-round score of 71 then carded a 72 during second-round play. The Garland native held sole possession of second place after the first round and was one stroke back of the lead after second-round play.

When scores climbed during Wednesday’s final round, consistency paid off for Brown as his 73 would give him a two-stroke win in the CPT’s final regular-season tournament before the summer tour’s championship later this month. Brown’s one-over par 73 on Wednesday tied for the round’s low score.

In its 15th year, the Collegiate Players Tour provides summer golf competition for college-aged men and women.

The CPT/Sonterra Collegiate Open was the 12th event of the season which included stops in New York and Pennsylvania as well as throughout the south and southwest. The 2008 CPT National Championship will be held Aug. 11-14 at Texas Star Golf Course in Euless.
