HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 14, 2008) The University of Houston swimming and diving team return to action this weekend when they host the Phill Hansel Duals Meet Weekend against Vanderbilt, Rice, Florida International and Incarnate Word at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Houston (5-1) swam its last dual at home, where they defeated Rice, 73-121, and New Mexico State, 152-146. The Cougars snapped a four dual losing streak against the Owls.
UH is 5-0 all-time against Florida International, 1-0 all-time against Incarnate Word and 0-1 all-time against Vanderbilt. After the win Nov. 6, the Cougars are now 17-22 all-time against Rice.
After winning three events against Rice and New Mexico State, senior Andrea Pa'lmai was named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week.
The senior from Budapest, Hungary won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:14.18, while taking top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.99). She also joined with teammates Sasha Schwendenwein, Kimberley Eeson and Jessica Shamburger to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.12.
Junior Anastasia Pozdniakova won her third C-USA Diver of the Week award this season and the sixth of her career after winning her fourth-straight 1-meter competition with 354.45 points. She also won the 3-meter competition with 351.16 points. For the second consecutive week, the Elektrosal, Russia native, was the only diver to break 300 points in both events.
