DALLAS, TEXAS (November 18, 2008) SMU earned an "A" from the Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA) on the annual BCA Football Hiring Report Card for its recent head coaching search, the BCA recently revealed.
A total of 31 Football Bowl Subdivision and Championship Subdivision schools were evaluated and graded based on five categories, including communication, search committee, final candidates, time frame and affirmative action for searches conducted in the 2007-08 hiring season. SMU received "A"s from the BCA for communication, time frame and affirmative action.
"We were thrilled with the outcome of our coaching search and are pleased that we received such a high mark from the BCA for our process," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "We had a plan, followed University procedures and found a coach, June Jones, who we believe is the best fit for SMU."
The BCA annually publishes a review of FBS and FCS institutions that have hired football coaches in the past year. This year's report marked the fifth hiring report card issued by the organization, formerly known as the Black Coaches Association.
