IRVING, TEXAS (November 5, 2008) University of Houston swimmer Sasha Schwendenwein and diver Anastasia Pozdnakova were announced Tuesday as Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week for the second time this season.
After last weekend’s events, the duo improved the Cougars record to 3-1 with a win over Oakland.
Schwendenwein was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week after she won each of her seven events against Michigan State and Oakland last weekend.
Against Michigan State, the senior swimmer was a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 7:34.89. In the 200-yard butterfly, she set a pool record with a time of 1:58.70 and she set another pool record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.23.
Against Oakland she clocked a time of 55:13 in the 100-yard butterfly and a time of 5:03.69 in the 500-yard freestyle. She concluded the weekend as a member of the 400-yard relay that finished with a time of 3:32.81. This is the fourth time in her career that Schwendenwein has won the C-SUA Swimmer of the Week award.
Pozdniakova was named the C-USA Diver of the Week after she won all four of her diving events and was the only diver to score over 300 points, while facing both Michigan State and Oakland.
Against Michigan State, she scored 382.12 points in the 3-meter competition, and in the 1-meter she scored 325.88 points.
At Oakland, the junior set pool records in both the 1-meter (375.67) and 3-meter events (396.07). This is the sixth time that Pozdniakova has been given the weekly honor in her career.

Houston will return to the pool Thursday when they swim against C-USA rival Rice, along with New Mexico State at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium beginning at 5 p.m.
