CONWAY, ARKANSAS (March 1, 2009) The Texas State women’s tennis team won a Southland Conference tennis match 7-0 at Central Arkansas Sunday as the Bobcats won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.
Junior Andrea Giraldo defeated Petra Keilova 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 in the top singles match and team with senior Lainy Chafitz to win the top doubles match over Heidi Miller and Lisa Mainz. Chafitz also won her number four singles match over Alex Rios 6-4, 6-0.
In the number two singles match, Ashley Ellis defeated Rebecca Miller 6-0, 1-6, 10-6 and Nyssa Peele won the number three-singles match over Lisa Mainz 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Kiki Kruse won her third straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Allison Hartman in a number five singles match and Makenzie Farmer won the number sixth matchup over Lindsey Short 6-2, 6-3.
Kruse and Farmer also defeated Jordan Short and Rebecca McCullough 8-0 in the number three doubles match. Ellis and Peele had a hard-fought number two doubles match against Keilova and Hartman before falling 8-7.
The victory improves Texas State’s overall record to 4-3 and evened the Bobcats’ Southland Conference mark at 1-1. Texas State returns home to play host to Lamar on March 7 and McNeese State on March 8. Both matches begin at 10:00 a.m.
