HOUSTON, TEXAS (February 3, 2013) The Tarleton State Texans
held on despite a ninth inning serge by Emporia State to win their second game
in the Astros In Action D-II Invitational by the score of 2-0 at Minute Maid Park.
The Texans first got on the board in the bottom of the third
inning when Alvaro Moreno singled on a 3-2 pitch; scoring Rustin Thomas from
first base.
Their second run came in the sixth inning, with the bases
loaded, when Evan Robinson was hit by a Kevin Shaffer pitch, allowing Colten
Booth to from third base.
Emporia
State mounted a ninth
inning comeback by loading the bases with no outs before relief pitcher GarrettKelly closed out the game for the Texan win.
Starting pitcher Matt Buckmaster, who saw 6.2 inning of
work, got the win.
He faced 24 batters, struck out seven and gave up only three
hits.
Garrett Bane was credited with the loss for Emporia State.
At the plate, Moreno
when 2-for-5 with one RBI for the Texans while Skylar Angood was 2-for-3 for
the Hornets.
With the win, Tarleton
State increases its season record to
2-1 while Emporia
State falls to 1-2.
