SAN MARCOS, TEXAS (September 25, 2016) The No. 6 Houston Cougars used a solid effort on both offense and defense to beat the Texas State Bobcats by the score 64-3 at Bobcat Stadium in front of 33,133 fans on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Houston went up 29-0 before the Bobcats could get on the scoreboard. The Cougars score 16 points in the first quarter, 27 in the second, 14 in the third and seven in the fourth. Quarterback Greg Ward, Jr, completed 20 passes on 26 attempts for 289 yards and two touchdowns. Steven Dunbar caught five passes for 79 yards and one touchdown while Duke catalon carried the ball 10 times for 70 yards and one touchdown.
Houston improved to 4-0 on the year and marks the second consecutive season the Cougars have started 4-0. Freshman quarterback and wide receiver scored three different types of touchdowns in the contest, including one passing, on receiving, and one kick return. Sophomore cornerback Howard intercepted a pass in the third quarter, giving him three interceptions in the last two games.
Next up for Houston is a Thursday, September 29, 2016 matchup against Connecticut with a scheduled 7 p.m. CDT kickoff.
