PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS (September 30, 2016) The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team split its home openers this week in the William J. Nicks Building.
PVAMU defeated St. Thomas 3-0 Tuesday in the Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game. Wednesday, the Lady Panthers lost a hard-fought 3-1 game to Incarnate Word.
The Lady Panthers swept St. Thomas 25-19, 25-13, 25-20. Taylor Goudeau had 14 kills to lead the attack. Erica Jimenez had 16 assists, and Mykaeli Franklin added 13 assists and seven digs. Christen Augustine added 11 digs in the match.
PVAMU fell in Wednesday’s match 17-25, 24-26, 25-22, 21-25 in four highly competitive games. Goudeau had a career-high 19 kills and added seven assists, Jimenez added a career-high 19 assists, and Augustine had 17 digs.
After losing set one, the Lady Panthers (4-10) were serving on match point but could not close the deal in set two. However, Prairie View rebounded in set three to earn a win. Consecutive kills by Larissa Martinez, Goudeau, Mokeysha Shanklin, and Goudeau gave the Lady Panthers an early 7-1 lead they would not relinquish.
In set four, Prairie View A&M rallied back from a six-point deficit to tie the match four times. A kill by Martinez off an Jimenez assist tied the set for the final time at 19-19.
Prairie View A&M returns to SWAC play at Texas Southern Friday at 7 p.m.
