The Hornets (0-4, 0-3) dominated the first half, amassing 280 offensive yards while holding Texas Southern to just 104 yards as they led 17-6 at intermission
But the Tigers rallied in the second half as Watts returned the second half kickoff for a score to cut ASU's lead to 17-13.
Then, following a field goal by the Hornets that made it 20-13, Medina kicked a 49-yard field goal to tighten the score again, 20-16 with 5:42 left in the third quarter.
"We fought through a lot of adversity tonight," said TSU head coach Michael Haywood. "We made some mistakes during the game but we're extremely pleased with how we responded when we had to make the plays."
Texas Southern will return home this upcoming weekend as they get set to host Alabama A&M at BBVA Compass Stadium.
