HOUSTON, TEX AS (June 17, 2023) The third-largest crowd in team history watched the Houston Dash earned one point in a scoreless draw against OL Reign at Shell Energy Stadium.
In the fourth minute, forwards MarĂa Sanchez and Diana Ordonez almost connected on a goal, but the ball narrowly missed the head of Ordonez. Sanchez had a free kick opportunity in the 22nd minute but Tullis-Joyce made a diving save to prevent a goal. Forward Michelle Alozie also had a chance to score in the 35th minute, but Tullis-Joyce managed to handle the ball before Alozie could put it past her.
The Dash played the second half with only 10 players after defender Natalie Jacobs was given a red card one minute into added time of the first half for, as was stated by the referee as "Denying an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity."
Despite being down a player, Houston attempted 18 shots, their highest total this season, and forced OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce to make five saves. The Dash also limited the Reign's attack to only eight shots, resulting in the team's fifth clear slate of the year.
In the second half, goalkeeper Jane Campbell made a key save early in the game and finished the night with one save. Midfielder Joelle Anderson had two close attempts at a goal, but OL Reign defenders prevented her shots from finding the back of the net.
Forward Ebony Salmon, a substitute in the 85th minute, immediately applied pressure to the back line and created opportunities for the Dash. In the end, Houston had two more chances to score in stoppage time, but OL Reign's defense prevented any goals from being scored.
