HOUSTON, TEXAS (June 23, 2026) June 23 brought another thrilling day of action at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighted by a record-setting performance from Cristiano Ronaldo (shown left) and three tightly contested group-stage matches.

Portugal delivered the day's most impressive result with a commanding 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Houston. Ronaldo became the first player to score in six FIFA World Cups, netting twice to lead the Portuguese attack. Nuno Mendes opened the scoring with a well-worked free kick, an own goal by Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov added to the advantage, and Rafael Leão completed the rout with a late finish. Portugal dominated possession and created scoring chances throughout the match.

England and Ghana battled to a scoreless draw in Boston despite several quality opportunities. England controlled possession, but Ghana's organized defense and timely goalkeeping frustrated the Three Lions, leaving both teams with a valuable point.

Croatia earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Panama behind Petar Sučić's long-range strike. Croatia's defense protected the slim lead with a disciplined performance, while Panama was unable to convert its late scoring chances.

Colombia completed the day's action with a hard-fought 1-0 win over DR Congo. Defender Daniel Muñoz scored the decisive goal, and Colombia's back line stood firm under second-half pressure to secure three important points and strengthen its position in Group K.
