TCU, currently ranked 34th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), enters Wednesday with a 1-3 record after opening the spring by facing four teams on the road listed among the national team rankings. The Horned Frogs look to regroup on their home court Wednesday from their most recent outing, a 5-2 setback to No. 72 Oklahoma last Saturday in Norman.
The upcoming road for TCU becomes no easier, beginning with Wednesday’s matchup
with Texas A&M. Including their meeting with the Aggies, the Frogs will play each of their next seven matches against teams with national rankings of No. 56 or better, including five top-26 squads.
A&M, 2-2 on the season, has dropped two straight matches entering Wednesday—a 7-0 loss to No. 2 Texas on Feb. 6 and a 6-1 setback at No. 7 Florida on Jan. 31. The squad opened its spring campaign with victories over North Carolina State and Radford.
The Aggies are led by top player Will Spencer, who is rated eighth nationally in singles. The squad boasts two other players rated nationally in singles in Conor Pollock (No. 12) and Austin Krajicek (No. 46). Pollock and Krajicek also pair up to form the ITA’s 34th-rated doubles tandem.
Three Frogs remain in the individual rankings, which have not been updated since the beginning of spring play: sophomore Emanuel Brighui (No. 93), senior Kriegler Brink (No. 97 also team up to form the nation’s 12th-rated doubles pairing.
The Frogs hold a 34-13 advantage in the all-time series with the Aggies. Texas A&M has won each of the last two seasons, including a tight 4-3 victory last season in College Station.
