SAN MARCOS, TEXAS (February 12, 2009) After winning the 2008 Southland Conference championship and making its second NCAA FCS Playoff appearance in the last four years, the Texas State University football team will play an 11-game schedule in 2009. The schedule features six home contests that include four games against Southland Conference teams as well as an annual Homecoming Game, a Family Weekend and a 50-Year Reunion for the famed Texas State Strutters dance team.
In addition, the Bobcats will also play road games at 11th-ranked TCU from the FBS’s Mountain West Conference, Southern Utah, as well as Southland Conference road games at Nicholls, Northwestern State and Central Arkansas.
“I am glad that we will play six of our 11 games at home and looking forward to another great season,” Texas State athletic director Larry Teis said. “I am also excited to have the new seating options with suites and club seats being added to Bobcat Stadium.”
They open the 2009 season against Angelo State on Sept. 5. These new options include the addition of 15 luxury suites and nearly 250 club seats to the west side of the stadium. Each of the suites contain 12 permanent seats and four bar stools with a cost of $30 thousand and packages for the open-air covered club seats are $1500 and $2000 per seat depending on its location.
Following the Angelo State game, the Bobcats travel to TCU on Sept. 12, before returning home to play host to Texas Southern on Sept. 26.
Texas State celebrates the Strutter’s 50-year reunion on Family Weekend when the Bobcats open its Southland Conference schedule against Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 10.
After the Southeastern Louisiana game, Texas State travels to Nicholls on Oct. 17 and to Northwestern State on Oct. 24.
The following weekend, the Bobcats play their annual Homecoming game on Halloween, Oct. 31, when the Bobcats play host to Stephen F. Austin.
The Bobcats end the regular season facing two nationally-ranked FCS teams from the 2008 season in it last three games. The stern test begins on Nov. 7 when the Bobcats travel to Conway, Ark, and play 14th-ranked Central Arkansas before returning home to face 22nd-ranked McNeese State on Nov. 14. Texas State ends the regular season against perennial intrastate rival Sam Houston State on Nov. 21.
