Deer Park 12U Cougars split double header in La Porte

LA PORTE, TEXAS (November 7, 2020) The Deer Park Cougars 12U softball team split a double header at the La Porte Softball Complex on Saturday, November 7, 2020. They started out the day by dropping an 8-3 decision to the Pasadena Element, following that up with a 10-2 win over Deepwater 12U.

In their game against Pasadena, catcher Kirstin Kelly led the Cougars; going 2-for-2, scoring two runs with one RBI. Second basewomen Hayley Poe and third basewoman Zayda Jauregui each had one hit for the Cougars with Poe scoring the third Cougar run in the game. Maddie Farmer faced 15 batters in one and one-third innings for Deer Park; striking out two without giving up any walks. She threw 49 pitches; with 30 of them being strikes,

In the second game against Deepwater, the Cougars tallied 10 runs off nine hits in their victory. First basewoman Keira Jennings, Kelly and Poe led the Cougars with two hits each; along with one hit each by center fielder Arianny Cantu, right fielder Paige Taylor, and Farmer. Farmer and Poe scored two runs, with shortstop Seslee Shreffler, Cantu, Jennings, Taylor, Kelly and Jauregui adding one run each to the Cougars’ total.

Jordyn Hailk saw two full innings in the circle, giving up only two runs, both of them earned. She faced nine batters; throwing 18 strikes on 30 pitches. She only walked one batter while striking out one.

Earlier this season, the Cougars took second place in the Deer Park Spooktacular Softball Tournament on the weekend prior to Halloween. It was their third top-three placing in tournament play in the team’s history.

The Cougars will close out their fall season with two games on Saturday, November 14, with location and opponents yet to be determined. Deer Park is coached by Larry King, Hillary Williams, and Dale Yurt.

Deer Park Cougars kickoff Gabby Romero Tournament with pool game win

PASADENA, TEXAS (October 3, 2020) The Deer Park Cougars 12U softball team kicked off the Gabby Romero Memorial Tournament with a 1-1 record in pool play at Burke Crenshaw Park in Pasadena, Texas with a 1-1 record in pool play. After dropping a 8-3 decision to the Pasadena Element in their first game of pool play, the Cougars rallied back to down the Deepwater Explosion by the score of 7-6.

Against Deepwater, the Cougars trailed after the first inning when the Explosion scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, after failing to score. Deer Park rallied back in the second inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead in the top of the second. Deepwater regained the lead in the bottom of the second; scoring four runs, with the Cougars trailing by one going into the third inning. Deer Park was able to score the tying and go ahead runs in the third inning to secure the win.

The Cougars bats were hot against Deepwater, with shortstop Keira Jennings and third baseman Kirstin Kelly connecting for thiples and right fielder Hayley Poe and pitcher Jordyn Halik hitting doubles. Catcher Maddie Farmer led Deer Park with two stolen bases, with Poe and MA Minor adding one each to the Cougars' total. Kelly recorded two RBI in the game, the most for both teams. 

Seven players scored single runs for the Cougars; including second baseman Zayda Jauregui, center fielder Arianny Cantu, Farmer, Minor, Jenkins, Halik, and Poe. Designated player/right field Paige Taylor reached base twice and advanced runners into scoring position to aid in the offensive effort for Deer Park. On the mound, Halik saw faced 14 batters, throwing 48 pitches, with 19 of them for strikes; in addition to striking out two and walking four.

The Cougars are coached by Larry King, Hillary Williams, and Dale Yurt.

Deer Park 10U Cougars go 1-0-1 in Co-op games

SOUTH HOUSTON, TEXAS (October 12, 2019) The Deer Park 10U Cougars won their first game and tied their second game in their third weekend of fall co-op play at the South Houston girl's softball fields. In their first game, they downed the Pasadena Lady Texans by the score of 4-3. In the second game of the Saturday afternoon double-header, the "Ladies in Red" tied the Deepwater Sharks 2-2.

Against Pasadena, the Cougars were led by catcher Kirstin Kelly, scoring two runs and going 1-for-1 at the plate with a double in her second at-bat. Starting pitcher Maddie Farmer connected for a single at the plate and struck out three from the mound. First baseman Elizabeth Posada got on base with two singles and scored the second run for Deer Park. Second baseman Jordyn Halik also hit a single, along with shortstop Sesslee Shreffler, who also scored.

In the second game, head coach Larry King switched up the players' position and use a different lineup against the Sharks. The defensive skills of Mikaela Provost, Paige Taylor, Brooklyn Smith, Aliyah Zavaleta, and Ava Sarratt by allowing only two batters to get to on base via two singles. Posada pitched against the Deepwater, striking out three and scored the game tying run with a double with two extra base for the score. In addition, Taylor connected for a single with Farmer getting on base with a single and scoring the first run of the game for the Cougars.

With the win and the tie, the Cougars now post a 4-1-1 record in co-op play, The final games of the 2019 Fall Co-op Season will be Saturday, October 19 at the South Houston softball fields.

Deer Park 10U Cougars down La Porte 4-0

PASADENA, TEXAS (September 14, 2019) The Deer Park 10U Cougars scores two runs in the first inning in route to a 4-0 win over the La Porte 10U Rodriguez girls softball team at the first round of Co-op Softball Games at Deerwater Softball Fields on Saturday.

The Cougars tallied seven hits in the game in route to their first co-op win of the fall season. Second baseman Delilah Rosales led off the game with a single, followed with a triple by shortstop Galilea Perez and a double by cather Kirstin Kelly. Perez' triple scored Rosales while Kelly's double scored Galilea from third.

In the second inning, the "Ladies in Red" added their other two runs off hits by right fielder Paige Taylor, first baseman Madalyn Farmer, and Rosales. Starting pitcher Elizabeth Posada gave up only two hits and struck out eight batters.

Also contributing to the win was the exceptional defensive and glove play of center fielder Aliyah Zavaleta, designated player Sesslee Shreffler, rover Ava Sarratt, left fielder Jordyn Halik and third baseman Mikaela Provost.

Deer Park 8U Cougars advance in winner's bracket of La Porte Tournament

LA PORTE, TEXAS (April 7, 2018) The Deer Park 8U Cougars Girls' Softball Team stormed through the first two rounds of the La Porte Girls Softball Tournament, scoring a total of 25 runs in two games at Little Cedar Bayou Park in La Porte, Texas on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

In their first game of the tournament, the Cougars downed the South Houston Extreme by the score of 11-0. The "Ladies in Red" scored four runs in both the first and second innings, and added three insurance runs in the third for their first win of the tournament. Their 11 runs was the result of 14 hits while leaving only three runners on base. They followed that with a 14-13 win over Deepwater Xplosion to go 2-0 in the winner's bracket of the tournament. Against Deepwater, the Cougars needed two extra innings to secure the one-run victory.

Against the Extreem, nine of the ten Cougars playing in the game reached base, with left fielder Quinn Romero, shortstop Aubrey Rogers, and catcher Kirstin Kelly each scoring two runs. Pitcher Cali Telles, first baseman Riley Wilson, center fielder Jocelynn Wall, second baseman Emilee Mendoza, and right fielder Paige Taylor connected at the plate for seven RBI, with third baseman Melina Delgado and rover Mia Ceniceros adding runs for the Cougars.

The Cougars had a tough match up in their second game of the tournament against Deepwater. They jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one inning, and held an 8-5 lead after two. Xplosion cut Deer Park's lead to two in the third and tied the score at eight in the fourth when the Cougars failed to score. That marked the end of regulation; forcing the game to extra innings. In the fifth inning, Deepwater exploed for four runs to take the lead 12 -8. The Cougars responded in great fashion, scoring four runs to again tie the game. In the sixth inning, Deer Park held Xplosion to a single run to take the score to 13-12. The Cougars began the inning with runners at second and third (as per the tie breaker rules)  when Kelly strode the plate. and after two pitches, connected for a fly ball over the second baseman's head and into center field; scoring Delgado and Rogers from third base and second base, respectively, for two runs and the win. Romero, Telles, Wilson, Delgado, and Wall were three-of-three at the plate, with Mendoza, Ceniceros, and Taylor adding hits and runs late in the game to add to the Cougars' total.

Deer Park will face the Deer Park Hooks in the third round of the tournament with a 9:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. 
The Cougars are managed by Larry King and coached by Abel Mendoza and Dale Yurt.

Deer Park Cougars 8U drops Deer Park Savage 10-8

DEER PARK, TEXAS (March 26, 2018) Paced by four RBI by catcher Kirstin Kelly, the Deer Park Cougars 8U softball team (shown right) downed the Deer Park Savage by the score of 10-8 in Girls League action at the Adult Softball Complex in Deer Park. The Cougars kicked of their scoring assault when Kelly singled in the second inning; sending shortstop Aubrey Rogers and rover Jocelynn Wall home from second and first base, respectively. Kelly added two more RBI in the third inning on another single, bringing second baseman Emilee Mendoza and Rogers home. Rogers tallied three hits in the game, including the final hit of the game to give the Cougars the win.

Left fielder Quinn Romero connected for two hits, along with right fielder Paige Taylor and third baseman Melina Delgado for six of the Cougars' 17 hits. First baseman Riley Wilson was 2-for-2 at the plate (single, double) and scored two runs. 

The Cougars' excellent field play held Savage at bay, with the excellent glove work of pitcher Cali Telles, center fielder Genesis Rodriguez, and flex/designated hitter Mia Ceniceros, limiting the Savage to only three balls getting out of the infield. Telles controlled the pace of the game from the circle; through focused play and awareness. Rogers scored three runs on three hits with Wall getting on base twice to put pressure on the Savage defense. Mendoza also scored two runs on two hits

Next up for the Cougars is a Thursday, March 29 match-up against the Deer Park Cobras. First pitch is set for  6:15 p.m. CDT at the Adult Softball Complex in Deer Park. The Cougars are managed by Larry King, and coached by Able Mendoza and Dale Yurt.

Deer Park 8U Cougars score 12 runs in final game of Sweetheart Tournament

DEER PARK, TEXAS (February 19, 2018) The Deer Park Cougars scored a season high 12 runs in their final game of the Deer Park Sweetheart Girls 8U Softball Tournament held at the Deer Park Adult Softball Complex on Sunday, February 18, 2018. The Cougars finished the fourth inning with the score tied at 10 against the Deer Park Ravens. The game went to extra innings with the Ravens putting four runs on the board in the top of the fifth. The Cougars came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning before two close tags ended the game with the score 14-12.

The Cougars were paced by rover Quinn Romero, who scored two runs, one of them a home run, and catcher Kirstin Kelly, who also scored two runs. Pitcher Melina Delgado, second base Emilee Mendoza, shortstop Aubrey Rogers, center fielder Mia Ceniceros, and left fielder Jocelynn Wall all had two hits and added single runs to the Cougars' total in the effort. In addition, third base Riley Wilson, first base Cali Telles and right fielder Paige Taylor all had single hits, along with scoring runs with each adding an RBI to the team's box score.


The Cougars will next take to the diamond on Monday, February 26 to begin spring league play. They are managed by Larry King. He is assisted by coaches Josh Telles, Able Mendoza, and Dale Yurt.

DEER PARK, TEXAS (February 17, 2018) 
The Deer Park Cougars kicked off the Deer Park Sweetheart Girls 8U Softball Tournament at the Deer Park Adult Softball Complex with two pool games on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Despite some spirited and inspired play, the Cougars dropped the two games by the score of 8-4 and 9-5. The pool games were lead-in games to tournament play which began at 3 p.m. on Saturday. In the 3 p.m. game, the Cougars will play the Diamond Rippers.

On offense, the Cougars were led by the bats of Cali Telles, Kirstin Kelly, Genesis Rodriguez, Riley Wilson, Quinn Romero, Aubrey Rogers, with Melina Delgado, Emilee Mendoza, Mia Ceniceros, Paige Taylor and Jocelynn Wall exhibiting excellent glove play in the field.

The Cougars are led by head coach Larry King and assisted by Josh Telles, Able Mendoza, and Dale Yurt.

Deer Park Lady Wildcats compete in Halloween Bash softball tournament

DEER PARK, TEXAS (October 29, 2017) The Deer Park Lady Wildcats 8U softball team competed in the Deer Park Halloween Bash Tournament on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The tournament, which started on Friday, October 20 and continued on Saturday, October 21, before being postponed due to torrential rain fall in the Houston and Gulf Coast area.

In their first game of the tournament, the Lady Wildcats downed Deer Park Pink by the score of 7-2. They advanced to the second round of the tournament, and dropped a close 8-6 decision to the Deer Park Ravens.. The tournament was postponed at this point, with play being resumed on Sunday, October 29. Coming from behind in the middle innings with their hot bats, the Lady Wildcats close an early four-run gap by the Deepwater  Xplosion before dropping a 12-6 decision for their second loss of the tournament.

The Lady Wildcats' offense was led by the bats of Kiley Adams, Jazzy Garza, Aislynn Yummit, Madison Jones, Bella Stokley, and Kirstin Kelly

Emilee Mendoza,  Lexie Lorillard, Savannah Brown, Trinty Choate, Aaliyah Agan, and Kensley Hyland provided excellent defense during the tournament.

The tournament was hosted by Deer Park Girls Softball and played at the Deer Park Softball Complex on X Street in Deer Park.

The Lady Wildcats are coached by Jimmy Stokley and Chad Hyland.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (October 6, 2017) The Deer Park Lady Wildcats kicked off the 2017 9th Annual Gabby Romero Benefit Softball Tournament at El Franco Lee Park in Houston, Texas in the 8U division with two games in pool play on Friday, October 6, 2017. In their first game of the evening, they dropped a hard fought 11-4 decision to Deer Park Orange. In the second game, against South Belt Green, they connected for four runs in both the first and second innings that led to a 9-5 win for Deer Park.

The Lady Wildcats showed a solid offense and defense against South Belt after overcoming the earlier loss to Deer Park Orange. Kiley Adams, Aislynn Yummit, Bella Stokley, Kensley Hyland, and Aaliyah Agan had stellar performances at the plate, while Emilee Mendoza, Jazzy Garza, Lexie Lorillard, Savannah Brown, and Trinity Choate showed excellent glove play in the field. In addition, Kiristin Kelly showed tremendous skill behind plate as catcher.

The Lady Wildcats continue the tournament on Saturday, October 7, 2017, as the No. 3 seed in bracket play, with a 6:45 p.m. start against No. 6 Pasadena Diamond Rippers. The Lady Wildcats are led by head coach Chad Hyland and assistant coach Jimmy Stokley.
