“Now it is time to think about the next phase,” said U.S. Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand). “We played well in some significant moments and we are happy with the win.”

Puerto Rico took an 8-7 lead into the first technical timeout of the first set. The two teams battled back and forth and Puerto Rico entered the second technical timeout with a 16-14 advantage. Team USA held the 8-7 lead at the first TTO of the second set thanks in part to two kills and a block from Stanley along with kills from Millar and Salmon. Again the two teams battled back and forth and it was Puerto Rico who took the 16-15 lead into the second TTO on a kill by Soto, his sixth point of the set.
