Last minute TD by Nicholls State downs HBU 23-17

HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 4, 2017) In a game that saw the HBU Huskies three seconds from going into overtime;  No. 17 Nicholls State threw a desperation pass that resulted in a touchdown; giving the Colonels a 23-17 win. The Huskies tied the score with on a 44-yard field goal by Alec Chadwick with 23 seconds remaining in the game. With the Huskies' kickoff, the Colonels moved the ball 53 yards in three plays for the score and the win.

Nicholls State scored first with a 50-yard field goal by Lorran Fonseca in the first quarter. HBU followed up  with a one-yard touchdown run by B.J. Kelly and a Chadwick extra point to give HBU a 7-3 after 15 minutes of play. The Huskies added another TD and extra point when Bailey Zappe connected with Ethan Fry on a nine-yard pass for the score while Chadwick added another extra point. That cloed out the first half scoring with HBU leading 14-6. The Colonels added safety and a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 17. before the Husky field goal and Nicholls touchdown in the final 23 seconds.

The loss drops the Huskies to a 1-8 record for the season and an 0-7 mark in conference play. Next up for HBU is a Saturday, November 11 game against Lamar on Senior Day/Military Appreciation Day at Husky Field.

They close out the 2017 season with a November 18 road game against Sam Houston State.
