HBU women fall to Lamar to start conference play

BEAUMONT, TEXAS (January 3, 2019) The HBU womens' basketball team came up short in their Southland Conference opener, falling to the Lamar Cardinals by the score of 63-50. The Huskies (5-6, 0-1 SLC) fell behind by eight points in the first quarter (17-9); adding 13 points in the second quarter to trail the Cardinals 22-30 at the half. HBU outscored Lamar 15-11 in the third quarter, but Lamar poured it on in the fourth; 22-13 to clinch the win.

Megan Valdez-Crader tallied 19 points for the Huskies, while Veronika Kirienko added10. Lauren Calver led the Huskies with 11 rebounds. For Lamar Miya Crump scored 18 points with Moe Kinard adding 16. The Cardinals now post a 8-4 record for the season.

Next up for the Huskies is a Saturday, January 5 meeting with New Orleans at Sharp Gym with a 2 p.m. CST start.
