Gold Cup Quarterfinal Matches Set For Houston

(Houston, Texas, June 14, 2007) The two quarterfinal matches of Gold Cup 2007 have been set for Houston Reliant Stadium.

In the first match of a double header on June 17 (Sunday), Mexico will face Costa Rica while Honduras will square of against Guadeloupe.

Costa Rica (1-1-1) finished in second place in Group A losing to Canada in their first game and tying Haiti 1-1. Their only win came against Guadeloupe 1-0.

Mexico finished Group C play in second place with a 2-1 record. They defeated Cuba 2-1 and Panama 1-0, losing only to Honduras 2-1.

They will face each other in the 2:00pm match of the doubleheader.

Honduras won Group C with a 2-1 record, beating Mexico 2-1 and Cuba 5-0. Their only loss was to Panama 3-2.

Guadeloupe finished in third place in Group A with one win against Canada by the score of 2-1. They ties Haiti 1-1 and lost to Costa Rica 1-0.

They will face off in the second match of the doubleheader at 5:00pm.

Well the U.S. national team is off to a great start in the Gold Cup. Let's hope they can keep it up. Anybody else predicting another U.S. vs Mexico final? Too bad the U.S. won't be sending the same squad to the Copa tournament.
