SAN MARCOS, TEXAS (February 16, 2009) The Texas State won its second straight home match with a 5-2 victory over the University of Texas-Pan American Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats opened the match with three straight doubles matches. Andrea Giraldo and Lainy Chafitz combined to beat Stephanie Willerding and Luisa Cantu 8-4 in the top doubles match. Ashley Ellis and Nyssa Peele also won an 8-6 decision over Andrea Salvetova and Malin Anderson, while MacKenzie Farmer and Kiki Kruse beat Megan Bedeau and Sarah Burton 8-1.
The Bobcats also registered four wins in singles play to clinch their second straight win. Ellis defeated Willerding 6-0, 6-1 in the top singles matchup, while Kruse beat Slavetova 6-2, 6-1 and Jennifer Nowland beat Sarah Burton 6-2, 6-4. Farmer also won her singles match in three sets as she beat Anderson 5-7, 6-4 and 7-6.
The Bobcats continue their homestand with a match against North Texas Sunday at noon.
