Waite Hurries Up For Second Place at the Aviva World Trials & UK Championships

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND (July 13, 2009) Former Distance runner Lennie Waite (Rice, 2008) placed second in the 3000m steeplechase at the Aviva World Trials & UK Championships held at Alexander Stadium.

Waite, who was born in Scotland and raised in Austin, Texas, posted a second place time of 9:52.62. 2009 was Waite's final year of collegiate eligibility and she earned All-America honors with a fifth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Helen Clitheroe was first with a time of 9:48.24

The IAAF World Championships qualifying standard is 9:40.00 and the "B" standard is 9:48.00. Waite's fastest time in the 3000m steeplechase is 9:50.48.
